Dr. Tom Coughlan


Dr. Coughlan is a management and marketing professional who has spent several decades in industry, and over a decade as a professional academic. His professional experience has been centered around the technology industry where he managed both national and global projects for clients that include IBM, Cisco, Oracle, Computer Associates, and Lotus. However, in addition he has done extensive work with professional services firms, and large scale commercial real estate projects.
His academic background includes teaching and administrative assignments for several different institutions in both the United States and Europe. Currently his academic appointments include MIM, Mercy College, Sacred Heart University, and the University of Bridgeport. He is the former Program Head of the Mercy College MBA Program, former Associate Dean of the Mercy College School of Business, Founding Editor of the Journal of Management and Innovation, and a former contract writer for Harvard Business Publishing.

Dr. Coughlan’s research includes a large body of work centered around management, innovation, virtual proximity, and expatriate effectiveness. He is currently working on several research projects exploring the challenges of managing teams that are geographically dispersed.

He holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport, and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Long Island University
